Separate AC replenishment from a fast-charging headline
A public DC charging claim does not tell you what the car accepts from a domestic AC installation. Record whether the candidate is PHEV or EV, its production information, inlet photographs and confirmed onboard AC specification. Use the powertrain comparison before requesting a wallbox quotation. Ask the equipment provider to confirm the complete supported connection, not only whether a plug appears to fit. Unverified conversions or marketplace adapters should not become the basis of a daily charging routine, especially when local service support is uncertain.
Describe the household routine in energy and hours
Write down normal travel distance, the time the vehicle is parked and whether more than one driver shares it. A long overnight window and a short turnaround between shifts create different requirements. For an EV, review the range and charging assessment; for a PHEV, distinguish desired electric travel from the supported hybrid operating routine. Do not multiply an advertised range by a generic efficiency assumption and call the result guaranteed. Compare realistic replenishment needs with the car's acceptance, the supply and the available parking window.
Give the electrician a property-specific brief
A qualified installer needs to assess supply capacity, existing loads, protective arrangements, earthing, cable routing and applicable local requirements. Explain whether the charger shares demand with heating, cooking or another vehicle. Ask whether load management or a supply upgrade is needed and how permissions will be handled. This is not a DIY connection exercise: an ordinary socket is not proven suitable because a portable charger starts once. Obtain a written scope identifying the responsible installer, inspection process and commissioning documents before ordering equipment.
Account for the Tai 7 parking envelope
Measure the actual parking position, charging-inlet location and cable path rather than planning from a small hatchback already using the space. Allow safe movement beside the vehicle and normal door access. Check whether the cable crosses a walkway or can be stored without damage. A shared garage may require consent, billing arrangements or restrictions on installation. The parking and clearance guide is relevant if accessories change access. A technically compatible wallbox has limited value if the driver cannot reach it naturally in the parking arrangement used every day.
Compare complete installation proposals
Separate the equipment price from survey, cabling, civil work, protection, permissions and testing. Ask about exclusions and the consequences of discovering insufficient supply capacity. Confirm who supports the charging unit locally and whether account or communication features depend on regional services. Add the complete scope to the landed ownership budget, not merely the online hardware price. If a seller includes a charger, verify its specification and installation responsibility; an accessory in the boot is not the same as a commissioned home charging point.
Commission with the identified vehicle
The final demonstration should use the selected Tai 7 and cover normal connection, session start, stable operation, stopping and release under the applicable instructions. Record the charger identifier, vehicle charge state and any messages. Check which device controls scheduling so conflicting timers do not create a missed session. Do not simulate electrical faults or force a locked connector. Where a problem appears, preserve evidence from both the car and equipment and involve qualified support. One failed start does not by itself establish a traction-battery defect.
Set a workable fallback and review changes
Identify an independently usable charging alternative before relying on the installation for essential travel. For a PHEV, retain the correct fuel and engine-care routine rather than assuming external charging removes those responsibilities. Keep installation certificates and support details with the vehicle file. A new property, replacement charger or changed vehicle can require a fresh assessment. After arrival and first service, complete normal sessions over the intended parking window and record any repeatable issue. The goal is dependable replenishment, not just an impressive demonstration on delivery day.
Buyer checklist
- Identify PHEV or EV and confirm AC hardware.
- Commission a property survey before buying equipment.
- Measure parking, cable reach and access.
- Retain the completed installation scope and test record.
Questions and answers
Does flash charging mean a very fast home charger is required?
No. Public DC performance and domestic AC charging are different questions. Match home replenishment to the actual onboard AC specification, property supply and parking time.
Is a charger supplied with the vehicle ready to use abroad?
Not automatically. Confirm its electrical and connection specification, destination compliance and a suitable installation. Included equipment does not establish a safe property-side supply.

Use the applicable market and year documentation for equipment and operating limits. The references have their own market and publication scope; they do not establish the condition, fitted equipment or destination approval of an individual vehicle.
